Rose Hall: Golfing in Jamaica That Will Suit You To A Tee

Rose Hall: Golfing in Jamaica That Will Suit You To A Tee

Golf in Montego Bay, Jamaica at Cinnamon Hill and the greens of White Witch and you’ll be able to say you crossed off two of the most noteworthy bucket list golf courses in the Caribbean, and even on an international level.

Both courses are an experience even beyond playing a beautiful round of golf on vacation in Jamaica. Aside from the appealing notion of hitting the links in a tropical paradise, each course is rated amongst the Top 5 in the region, with the seaside putting greens of Cinnamon Hill and ocean views from 16 of the 18 holes at White Witch creating a unique set of challenges and vistas while you play around.

Hank Smedley’s original 1969 design of Cinnamon Hill was updated in 2001 to a brilliant redesign by Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril. They are also the architects of the White Witch course as well as championships golf courses in over 16 countries around the world, which play host to an average of 12 major PGA Tours, Senior PGA Tours, European PGA Tours, International Golf Open Events and National and International Amateur Championships.

Both courses offer more than a memorable round of golf however as they take you on a journey when you visit to internationally recognized Jamaican related cultural icons.

The haunted great house of Rose Hall itself is framed in your view as you swing at the second tee at Cinnamon Hill while the White Witch course has you walking the grounds of the former plantation. Another mythical haunting supposedly takes place at the Cinnamon Hill Great House, the second home for thirty years of country music legends, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Other highlights of the Cinnamon Hill course include a centuries-old burial plot for the family of English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning near the fourth tee-box, an ancient aqueduct used to grind sugar cane in the plantation era visible over the course and, near the 15th green, a gentle waterfall, site of an exciting scene in the James Bond movie Live and Let Die.

Play through the pines on the 17th hole at Cinnamon Hill and hope you don’t get distracted by the stunning sea 350 feet below and enjoy conversations at both with caddies rated by Golfer magazine as some of the best in the world. Take advantage of the Caddie Concierge service at White Witch and while they’re helping you with your game, they’ll regale you with tales about the two Palmers; the White Witch herself Annie Palmer, the former plantation mistress of the famous Haunted Great House of Rose Hall which you can tour, as well as about Arnold Palmer and his golfing in Jamaica. You’ll be walking in the footsteps of both.

Although professional tournaments are hosted here, the courses will also host private group events, and welcomes beginners to advanced players and also young golfers with classes and courses on offer. The Clubhouses have driving ranges, practice tees, and bunkers, as well as putting greens with caddy services and golf carts available.  Additional amenities include on-site gift shops, dining options, golf camps, shoe and club rental so no need to worry if you didn’t come prepared!

Whether you’re a vacation planner and want to book way in advance or decide to act on a whim and want to see if you can get a last-minute round in, just contact either course and they will be happy to give you all the information you need.

With a hotel and the famous historic great house also on hand, this could be the perfect hole-in-one way of booking your ideal golfing holiday in Jamaica!
